A well-stocked first-aid kit, is a necessity in every home.It will help you handle an emergency at a moment's notice.
Containers to be used for First-AId-Kit should be of ligh weight, durable, easy to carry,simple and easy to open,non-toxic,thermostable.Boxes or containers of plastic are considered to be perfect for first-Aid-Kit because they are lightweight, have handles, and offer a lot of space to store the content of your First-Aid -Kit.
Things that you should Include in each of your first-aid kit are as follows:
- first-aid manual
- sterile gauze
- adhesive tape
- adhesive bandages in several sizes
- elastic bandage
- antiseptic wipes
- soap
- antibiotic cream (triple-antibiotic ointment)
- antiseptic solution (like hydrogen peroxide)
- hydrocortisone cream (1%)
- acetaminophen and ibuprofen
- extra prescription medications (if the family is going on vacation)
- tweezers
- sharp scissors
- safety pins
- disposable instant cold packs
- calamine lotion
- alcohol wipes or ethyl alcohol
- thermometer
- plastic gloves (at least 2 pairs)
- flashlight and extra batteries
- mouthpiece for administering CPR (can be obtained from your local Red Cross)
- your list of emergency phone numbers
- blanket (stored nearby)
After assembling of your first-aid kits:
learn how to use the contents of your First-Aid -Kit, for example about the medicines that you have included in you kit.(learn their side effects, benifits,how to be taken,how much to be taken and for what purpose it should be taken and what if excess is taken)
Store first-aid kits in places that are out of children's reach but easily accessible for adults so as to prevent any accidental use of the same.
Check the kits regularly for the content and replace missing items or medicines that may have expired.
